2010 Alberta Business Awards of Distinction Winner

Excellence in Alberta’s business community was celebrated as the winners of the 19th annual Alberta Business Awards of Distinction were announced at a gala in Edmonton on February 19, 2010.

The Alberta Chambers of Commerce host the annual Alberta Business Awards of Distinction to announce Alberta’s outstanding businesses in 10 business categories. Each year the awards program discovers companies and organizations that are implementing outstanding business practices in every corner of the province. These businesses are not only leaders in their sectors, they are also leaders in their communities.

This year, Francomedia won the Marketing Award of Distinction! The award was presented to Kevin Franco of Francomedia by Don Oszli, Chair of the Alberta Chambers of Commerce.

Previous winners of this prestigious marketing award include Spindle, Stairs & Railings of Calgary, Bioware Corporation of Edmonton and Heritage Community Foundation of Edmonton.

The winner of the Premier’s Award of Distinction, the evening’s most prestigious honour, was Savanna Energy Services Corp. of Calgary.

Francomedia.com – Calgary (10 employees)

Francomedia.com, a “creative and idea fulfilment” company, sought to recession-proof its operation by nursing existing clients with continued good service with the hope they would also refer others, and seeking new customers with playful and creative marketing concepts. The campaign began with a direct marketing approach and special packaging promotional piece that showcased Francomedia.com’s capacity for graphic design and illustrated the team’s creative abilities. Francomedia.com kept spreading the news through every other available venue, including its website, mail inserts, speaking engagements, corporate blog and Twitter. The campaign worked - Francomedia.com not only increased its existing client work, it saw its new business jump by one-third and it even added staff, all with a fairly inexpensive campaign.

2009 Alberta Business Awards of Distinction Finalist

On February 27, 2009, The Alberta Chambers of Commerce held the Business Awards of Distinction Gala in Edmonton to announce the winners of the various business awards.

This year, Francomedia as well as good client, Spindle, Stairs & Railings, were finalists for the Marketing Award of Distinction. Our client won the award this year and what made it a sweet victory for both us and our client was that the award was based on work that we did for them on their web site.

Francomedia.com – Calgary (6 employees)

Francomedia.com threw a line in Alberta’s busy advertising/marketing pond and reeled in a winner with a fun goldfish theme that’s capturing lots of attention for the five year old Calgary company. Francomedia has always been a boutique creative house that strives to ensure its employees thrive in an exciting, creative environment and its goldfish motif offers an example of the inventive work it offers clients. The goldfish rebranding exercise included clear, plastic business cards, postage stamps, envelopes and invoices embossed with Francomedia’s bright-orange symbol. The company’s efforts to call attention to its creative talents have doubled its sales, staff and work volume.
